Batenburg Industriële Elektronica assists in surveying the seabed

Clean Water

Batenburg Industriële Elektronica is a proud partner of the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ).

NIOZ has been active as an oceanographic research institute for almost 145 years. NIOZ conducts multidisciplinary fundamental marine research and focuses primarily on scientific and social issues, such as the functioning of deltas and coastal areas, seas and oceans. They make extensive use of sensors for seabed surveys.

The sensors

The sensors have a unique function. They are used to perform measurements, such as temperatures. The sensor can perform measurements with a maximum deviation of 1/1000thKelvin (1mK) and has a resolution of one 50 millionth Kelvin. NIOZ also uses sensors that can measure the amount of cobalt and copper in a certain environment. This makes it possible to determine the amount of vegetation in the same area.

Cooperation

For seabed surveys in the Mediterranean Sea, Batenburg supplied over 3,000 PCBs to NIOZ. For this project, we contributed ideas at component level, among other things. We distinguish ourselves by our ability to manage the Life Cycle of the components. It is important to us that we optimise the life cycle of our client’ products.

NIOZ provided us with all the right data (ODB, BOM, etc), after which we purchase the materials, SMD assembly, selective soldering and coating. The PCB itself does not come under pressure. The titanium housing ensures that the pressure remains close to 1 atmosphere. The coating of the PCBs is essential. The coating ensures that any condensation does not cause a short-circuit or corrosion due to the salt water.
